Mera Peak Climb

In consultation with our Nepalese climbing partner Himalayan Ascent, I have finalised the itinerary for the Mera Peak climb in October. Mera Peak at 6476m is the highest trekking peak in Nepal and a wonderful undertaking for anyone looking to take on a Himalayan Peak.

The trip will run for 21 days, and like all of our previous trips, we will be securing some of the best climbing Sherpa’s in Nepal. Unlike Everest Base Camp, this trip involves camping on the way in, and sleeping in tea-houses on the way out. The walk in is pristine, as you will be trekking through the remote Hinku Valley, with a high pass crossing of the Zatra La (4610m). For those who have not been to the Himalayas, this is a great 1st trip, combining a trek through untouched forest and rugged landscape whilst gaining incredible views of the surrounding mountains, with the bonus of having the opportunity to climb a beautiful Himalayan peak.

The climb itself is not technical, but it requires a good level of fitness. We set up two camps on the mountain, one at the Mera La (5350m) and then another at high camp (5800m), before taking on the final push for the summit. You will be travelling across the glacier, and be required to wear mountaineering boots, crampons, harness and carry an ice-axe. We may also rope up in certain stages, and use a short section of fixed line for the final push to the summit. Mera Peak is the highest trekking peak in Nepal at a whopping 6476m, and from personal experience, there is no greater feeling in the world than standing on top of these majestic peaks.

We can arrange for hire of all the specialised equipment in Nepal, or you can buy the gear in Australia or Nepal, depending on your budget. We will also provide everyone with warm down jacket and sleeping bag. I will also be filming the expedition and put a DVD together for everyone.
