Ama Dablam rises to 6,812m, towering above the Sherpa villages of Pangboche and Tengboche. It is one of the most iconic peaks in the Himalayas.

Its striking pyramid shape and hanging glacier, which resembles a mother’s necklace, have made Ama Dablam one of the most photographed and admired mountains in the world.

We climb via the classic Southwest Ridge, the most established and popular route on Ama Dablam, offering steep ice, rock, and exposed ridges with fixed lines for safety.

Our Ama Dablam expedition typically takes around one month, including trekking to base camp, acclimatisation, climbing rotations, and the summit push.

This is a technical climb suited to strong rock climbers and mountaineers with previous Himalayan or high-altitude experience. You should be comfortable with crampons, fixed ropes, and exposed ridges.

Excellent fitness is essential. Expect climbing days of 8–12 hours while carrying a 10–15kg pack on technical terrain. Training should start 6–12 months before departure. Everest One can guide you through this process with ongoing training advice and support.

Ama Dablam involves steep snow, ice, and rock climbing with significant exposure. Fixed lines are in place, but climbers must be confident in their technical ability and rope skills.

You will need high-altitude mountaineering gear, including high altitude mountaineering boots including 8,000-meter all-in-one boots (La Sportiva Olympus Mons, Scarpa Phantom 8,000, Millet Everest), 6-7,000-meter double boots (La Sportiva Spantik, La Sportiva G2 SM, Scarpa Phantom 6000), crampons, harness, helmet, ice axe, down suit or jacket, and layered clothing. We fly from Kathmandu to Lukla and trek through Sherpa villages, passing Namche Bazaar, Phortse, and Pangboche before reaching Ama Dablam Base Camp.

Yes. A helicopter option is available from Ama Dablam Base Camp to Kathmandu, reducing the expedition by up to five days. The cost of this option ranges for USD $1000-2000 per person and is dependant on the number of passengers. Everest One can assist in this process however have no control of the prices, which fluctuate depending on the individual provider. Payment for this service is made directly to the helicopter company.
